Michi Weiss started the 13th edition of Ironman 70.3 St. Pölten with big ambitions. The No.1 goal was to defend his title from last year. Having already performed well in 2 full Ironman distance races in April, Weiss was especially motivated for his home race. He had been nursing a minor irritation of his tibialis anterior tendon in his left forefoot which he had picked up after Ironman Texas, but nothing serious enough to prevent him from starting the race.

The 1.9 km swim took place in the lakes of Viehofen and Ratzersdorf, which are separated by 200m stretch of land. Due to the unusually cold water temperature of 16C the swim was wetsuit only. Michi exited the water in 27:47 in 15th position and thereafter went into familiar catch up mode.

In the coming weeks, Michi will decide, together with his coach, whether to go to Ironman Austria on 7th July or to rest up ahead of the important training blocks that will take him right up to his main objective of the year – The Ironman World Championship in Hawaii..
